Everyone wants to be good at what they do, especially if what they do is something creative. But you only get there by being bad first. Then you get a little better, over time, until you can confidently say that you're not a beginner anymore.
And then what?
When it comes to art, there's the goal and there's the process, and you can't achieve the former without loving the latter. Whatever place you imagine for yourself in the future, be it commercial success, your work being exhibited and published, or achieving some deeply personal mission, the only way to get there is through mistakes.
Hard, constant, sometimes boring work.
Plenty of rejection, frustration & disappointment.
A long, painful process that hopefully leads somewhere beautiful. This process, which lies somewhere in between nothing and everything, is what constitutes the majority of our professional and artistic lives, and we all have our own ways of getting on with it.
This is mine.
New posts on Tuesdays. Cheers.
